Fauna: the animal world of Belarus
The fauna of our country is distinguished by a variety of species. This is due primarily to the fact that in Belarus there are numerous water bodies, as well as many plant species. Protection of flora and fauna of Belarus materializes at the state level. Many Belarusian territories are reserved, and about 189 species of animals and 274 plant species are listed in the Red Book of Belarus.
Variety of animals in Belarus
In total in our country there are 457 species of vertebrates, as well as more than thirty thousand invertebrates. They are divided into seven classes:
- birds (308 species);
- mammals (81 species);
- Bony fish (66 species);
- Amphibians (12 species);
- reptiles (7 species);
- Cyclostomes (3 species).
The most common among invertebrates are insects.
Symbols of Belarus: Stork and aurochs
The stork and the aurochs are recognized as unofficial symbols of the Republic of Belarus. aurochs, which can be found in the national park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha", not so long ago, the disappearance from the face of the earth. However, now, thanks to the efforts of state protection, their number has reached 450 individuals and continues to grow.
