The fauna of our country is distinguished for the diversity of species. This is primarily due to the fact that there are numerous water bodies on the territory of Belarus, as well as many plant species. The protection of fauna and flora of Belarus is carried out at the state level. Many Belarusian territories are reserved and about 189 animal species and 274 plant species are listed in the Red Book of Belarus.
In total in our country there are 457 species of vertebrates, as well as more than thirty thousand invertebrates. They are divided into seven classes:
The most common among invertebrates are insects.
The stork and the aurochs are recognized as unofficial symbols of the Republic of Belarus. Not so long ago, the aurochs, which can be found in the "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" national park, remained at risk of extinction. However, thanks to the efforts of state protection, now their number has reached 450 individuals and continues to grow.
