The climate in Grodno is moderately continental, so wear light pants or shorts and a tank top in the summer (the average temperature in summer is about 18 degrees on C or 64,5 on F). Grodno was first mentioned in the annals in 1005, which makes it one of the oldest cities in Belarus. It was founded and documented in 1128. In the middle of the XIII century Grodno became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

The city is one of the most important historical and cultural centers of Belarus, as one of the oldest cities in the republic, which has preserved unique historical buildings. At different times, the city was part of different states, adopting and preserving their culture. It was the second largest city of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, as well as for some time the residence of the Grand Duke of Lithuania.
