In the Bykhovski region, there is an amazing monastery, which is one of the oldest in Belarus. The first mention of it dates back to 1641. The Ascension Convent is famous for the miraculous icon of the Mother of God, who, according to a legend, chose this place itself. People say that the carriage of Prince Pozharsky could not budge until the image was left in the Holy Ascension Monastery. The icon has survived all wars since the 17th century. To this day, pilgrims of different faiths come here.

Foundation and revival of the monastery

The monastery was founded with funds from the Orthodox magnate Bohdan Stetkevich. For a long time people came here to bow before the icon, to feel God's grace, to be baptized. After 1920, the monastery in Barkolabovo was closed.

The revival of the monastery dates from 2008 with the arrival of the schema-abode Antonia. In 2010, the Baptist Church was built on the territory of the nunnery in Barkolabovo. Through the efforts of the sisters and the archpriest, a bell tower, a sister building, a font and a refectory for pilgrims appeared.

The monastery is located where the Lakhva flows into the Dnieper. In the spring, the water rises, and it seems that the Ascension Monastery in Barkolabovo will go under water one day. However, this has never happened, although a few decades ago it was possible to catch fish here by hand. They say that everything is thanks to the icon of the Mother of God in Barkolabovo.

Mysticism in the monastery

Unexplained stories are associated with this place. In the evenings, footsteps can be clearly heard in the empty courtyard, although there is no one around. Many sisters of this nunnery in the Bykhovsky region are already accustomed to an incomprehensible phenomenon and do not even turn around.

The ghostly figures of two nuns are often seen on the territory. If you try to talk to them, they dissolve into thin air. Inexplicable! However, everyone who comes here notes the unusually light atmosphere.
