Turov Altar Cross
The cross was reborn in 2020. It has two options. One, filled with spiritual power and containing a particle of the Honest and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, will be located in the Cathedral of Turov. A copy of it, made for education and enlightenment, has been transferred to the Museum of the National Academy of Sciences.
The creators of the landmark project have been attentive to every detail. Art historian Maria Netsvetaeva, member of the Belarusian Union of Artists Elena Andryushchenko, jeweler Oleg Ermolovich worked on the restoration of the shrine. The creative group was awarded the prize "For Spiritual Revival".
It is known that the temple in which the cross was kept was destroyed during the earthquake of 1230. Centuries later, four lead medallions with the faces of saints were found on the site of the church during archaeological excavations. It took decades to prove that they were really located on the Turov vozdvisalny (altar) cross.
When making the cross, it was necessary to use the technique of the XII century.
The outer part of the Turov shrine is decorated with precious and semi-precious stones. At the head of the cross is a large green emerald grown in the laboratory of the National Academy of Sciences, and in the central place is a ruby — a symbol of love. Pomegranates are the sacrificial blood of Christ, an emerald is a symbol of the Holy Spirit.
