Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in ag. Massolany
The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a monument of late Baroque architecture with elements of classicism. Built in 1796 as a Uniate by Marianne Bisping, it became Orthodox in 1840. Brick single-nave single-towered rectangular temple with a high gable roof. The main facade with rectangular windows is divided by a developed entablature into 2 tiers. The lower tier is decorated with order elements, its middle part – a projection - is completed with a triangular pediment. The upper tier is a square tower in plan, covered with a high octagonal tent with lucarnes (in the 2nd half of the nineteenth century, the completion of the tower was rebuilt, decorative heads on the roof were made), with rudiments of volutes on the sides. The walls of the tower have large rectangular windows with semicircular ends. The side facades with arched windows are devoid of decorations. The hall interior is covered with a flat ceiling. The walls are divided by pilasters. Near the western wall, the choirs are opened into the hall by three arched openings. The three-tiered iconostasis was made in 1892.
