Lesnyanskaya Library-Museum
The Lesnyansky Library-Museum is part of the State Cultural Institution "Centralized Network of Public Libraries of Slavgorodsky district".
As you know, the village of Lesnaya is famous for its history. Here, during the Northern War of 1700-1721, Russian troops under the command of Peter I defeated the Swedish corps of General Levenhaupt and thwarted the plan of the Swedish King Charles XII's campaign against Moscow. The Belarusian people actively helped the Russian army in the fight against the Swedes: they destroyed food supplies when the Swedish troops approached, led a guerrilla struggle. The battle of Lesnaya ended with a magnificent victory of the Russian army. From the 16-thousandth corps of Levenhaupt, a little more than 4 thousand people reached Charles XII. The whole Russian army rejoiced at the first huge victory over the "invincible" enemy, but Peter I himself rejoiced most of all. He called the victory at Lesnaya the "mother of the Poltava battle" because it contributed to the weakening of the Swedish army, which was then finally defeated near the walls of Poltava.
Centuries have passed. However, the memory of the glorious battle of Lesnaya has not faded. In 1908, during the celebration of the bicentennial of the victory over the Swedes, descendants of the regiments who participated in the battle, a monument was unveiled in the form of an eagle cast in bronze, which defeated the enemy banner, and a memorial chapel was built, which is a building in the old Russian style with mosaics, artistic wood carving, an inscription in script above the main entrance.
In honor of the 300th anniversary of the famous Battle of the village of Lesnaya, an exhibition hall was created in the village library-museum, where there is an opportunity to see some exhibits dedicated to these events.
