It was created in order to preserve the unique size of a block of cemented sand-gravel-pebble mixture (conglomerate) under the influence of a glacier on the surface of the earth. There is no analogue of such a manifestation of glacial activity (in size and preservation) on the territory of the Vitebsk region.

The conducted research of the natural monument confirmed the value of the object. The considerable size of the largest conglomerate block protruding to the earth's surface (length 10.7 m, width 3.4 m and height 3.98 m) is impressive. In 1 – 1.5 m to the north lies another detached fragment of the block (5.7 x 3.0 x 1.2 m) and 1.0 m to the south – a smaller piece (3.3 x 3.0 x 0.8 m). It can be assumed that the main part of the conglomerate block, which has not undergone exogenous transformation, is buried in the ground. At the top of the block grows a pine up to 12-14 m tall, the age of which can reach 23-24 years.

There is a well-defined horizontal layering on the chips of the composing fragments of the rock. The block is located in the lowest, western part of the slope of a small ridge. The nature monument "Serpent Stone" is surrounded by woody and shrubby vegetation. Most of the surface of the conglomerate is covered with moss and lichens.
