Suspension bridges in Vileika

Incredible beauty, romance and a little adrenaline – these are floating roads or suspension bridges in the Vileika district. They are located in the villages of Voydeni, Naberezhnaya and Ruchitsa. Together with the Narochanka River, an ancient pond and the ruins of the Oginsky estate, these are the main attractions.

Ruchitsa

From here it is about 10 km from Vileika. Summer residents and several local residents remained in this village. At the entrance, you will see the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and everything that has survived from the majestic summer residence of the Oginsky. In 1943 the village was burnt down and the estate was destroyed.

If you are interested in suspension bridges in Belarus, be sure to come here. Literally 500 meters from the chapel, you will see an authentic wooden bridge, across which you can go to the neighbouring village of Krasnitsa. Caution: when you take your first steps, the structure will wobble slightly.

Voideni

This village could be the next destination. It is only 4 km from Ruchitsa here. When the asphalt road ends, you will see a path leading into dense greenery.

There is a suspension bridge across Narochanka, built in the 80s. Not everyone dares to cross it. The railing is tilted here, so there is practically nothing to hold on to. To get to the next soaring road, walk 3 km along the opposite bank.

Embankment

In this village, houses are located on both sides of the river. Indigenous people, who can be counted on the fingers of one hand, visit each other on a pedestrian suspension bridge, whose history began a long time ago. By the way, it is in good condition, on one side there is a stable rail. You will see how Narochanka winds through the picturesque canyons and admire the impressive surroundings.

Well, if you want to walk along the longest suspension bridge in Belarus, go to Mosty. Its length is more than 193 m, width is 1.5 m. It was erected in 1972 instead of a pontoon bridge. In the 90s, cables and railings were replaced here.

Other sights of Vileika

You cannot visit this city and not see the Holy Cross Church with Gothic features, the construction of which began in 1906. Also, take a look at the local history museum and relax on the banks of the Vileika reservoir – the largest artificial reservoir in Belarus. Read about other unexplored objects, besides suspension bridges over rivers, in the blog.

And to make as many discoveries as possible while travelling, book an excursion or tour. Together with the VETLIVA guides, you will visit both the most popular and little-known, but no less picturesque places.
