Suspension bridge in Beshenkovichi

There are urban settlements in Belarus that at first glance seem unremarkable, but in fact, keep many mysteries. One of these places is Beshenkovichi.

A lot of beauty and a little extreme

Here, in the outback in the Vitebsk region, there are such attractions as the Khreptovich Palace, where Napoleon Bonaparte stayed, the Church of St. Elijah, built in the 19th century in the pseudo-Russian style, the gate and the 19th-century chapel. But perhaps the most unusual object is the suspension bridge over the Krivinka River.

It is in wonderful harmony with nature. And the views from here, especially at sunset!

This suspension bridge not far from Vitebsk is quite strong, but a walk along it tickles your nerves. When two people walk, it seems that it sways and squeaks so much that it seems that it is about to break off. It's just breathtaking! But some people even ride their bicycles here.

Be sure to head to this long suspension bridge to experience the local exotic and extreme. Although little is known about his history, he is impressive! Therefore, if possible, visit Beshenkovichi on your own or as part of an excursion.

Suspension bridges in Belarus, history and features

There are several such facilities in our country. Most of them are located in the Vitebsk, Grodno and Mogilev regions.

The longest suspension bridge in Belarus is located in Mosty. Its length is 193.3 m. It connects the two banks of the Neman and is the hallmark of the city.

The construction of this suspended pedestrian bridge began in the 1970s. Before the bridge appeared, the crossing to the other side was carried out using a boat or a pontoon bridge, which was very inconvenient. It is curious that the construction of the suspension bridge of the city of Mosty was carried out in winter when the Neman was under a layer of ice. The facility was commissioned only in the summer. It has been reconstructed more than once, but there is no doubt about its stability!

Where else can you go over the suspension pedestrian bridge:

  • Orsha (river Orshitsa);

  • Polotsk (river Polota);

  • Sharki village (Luchosa river);

  • Village of Sushchi (Basya river);

  • The villages of Ruchitsa, Voidni and Naberezhnaya (The Narochanka River).

In fact, there are more such bridges, and they are usually found in villages. Local residents and fans of river rafting tell about where to look for them. You can also learn about this and other sights of Belarus during an excursion or tour with VETLIVA.

Book a route and go on an exciting journey!
