Those students who dream to dedicate their life to animal breeding or agriculture should pay attention to the oldest institution known as the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy that is recognized as the best higher school of the Republic of Belarus and CIS countries among agricultural educational institutions. Over a long period of its development, the BSAA put out a lot of highly qualified specialists. But the Alma Mater is rightly proud of some of its honored graduates, ranging from the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to the outstanding statesman of the BSSR Nikolay Goloded after whom one of the most beautiful streets of the Belarusian capital is named. The writer Maxim Gorky has worked as a teacher at the Academy for a long time.

The history of the Academy began in 1836 thanks to the decree of the Russian Emperor Nicholas I. The following year, the large-scale construction was started with the efforts of the architect Campioni. And three years later, the Gory-Gorki agricultural school consisting of two teaching sections: the lower and the higher ones opened its doors. There was no end to those who wanted to go to the new school. Gradually, the school has gained immense popularity in the Russian Empire. A little later, the higher education section was transformed into the Agricultural Institute, to study in which it was necessary four years. However, after the uprising led by Kastus Kalinovsky, the Institute in Gorki suffered hard times as students and teachers of progressive views became active participants of the sensational rebellion. Therefore, the Institute ceased to function in the Belarusian lands moving to the Russian Saint Petersburg.

And the Institute being in disfavor restarted its activity in the Belarusian Gorki only in the Soviet period. And there was a historical uniting of the Gory-Gorki Agricultural Institute and the Minsk Institute of Agriculture in the 20s of the last century. So, there appeared the Belarusian State Academy of Agriculture dedicated to the Great October. However, the newly formed Academy consisted of several departments, many of which remained in the Gorki and later joined the Institute of Agriculture. During the Second World War, the Belorussian agricultural Institute did not prepare specialists as it was closed. It resumed its activities only in the postwar period. Three years after the end of the war, the Institute was transformed again, but this time into the BSAA well-functioning today. It puts out from its walls first-class professionals highly sought in many sectors of agriculture. Graduates of the old Academy in Gorki are still in demand far beyond the borders of Belarus where they are highly regarded.

The Belarusian State Agricultural Academy offers an excellent level of training and puts out graduates whom not only the Alma Mater but also the Republic of Belarus is rightly proud of.
