Tour of the First World War
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Smorgon region was in the epicenter of the events of the First World War. Many violent battles have taken place in local cities and villages. A tour of the history of the war also goes through the battle sites of the infamous first death war battalion of Maria Bochkareva.
After such a walk in the wake of the fighting, the excursion continues to the city of Smorgon. The strength and courage of the soldiers makes it possible to call the defense of the city truly heroic. Among the servicemen in the Russian army there was even a saying that “Whoever did not visit Smorgon, he did not see the war”.
In honor of the defenders of the city during the 1st World War opened a memorial complex. It is located in the Victory Park.
The complex consists of:
a small chapel;
world maps with military events;
three unique sculptures: "The Winged Genius of Soldier Glory", "Soldiers of the First World War", "Refugees".
Completing the idea of Smorgon and it participation in a brutal war will allow a visit to an on-site museum composition.
The history of the city is connected not only with the 1st World War, but also with the famous Radziwill family, an unusual academy where bears were taught, and the war with Napoleon.
