Program
The museum in Vetka was founded thanks to the initiative of Fyodor Shklyarov, a native Vetkovchanin.
His collection of local antiquities attracted everyone's attention, so it was decided to create a state museum. Fyodor Grigoryevich became its first director. The museum was opened in 1987.
The first copies of icons, handwritten and old-print books, utensils and weaving were brought by F.G. Shklyarov and his first assistants from numerous expeditions, arranged with personal funds and not authorized by anyone. So they appeared in the museum, and legends and stories about them are carefully conveyed by word of mouth, from heart to heart.
The museum exposition on three floors of the building includes:
- the history of the museum, the history of Vetka;
- the most ancient finds testifying to the presence of primitive man in the Vetka region and traces of ancient sites (finds of flint tools, bone arrowheads, darts and harpoons, various household items and jewelry);
- exposition related to ceremonies in Belarus (driving and funerals of Strela, Kupalye, Dozhinki);
- finds related to trade in Vetka (glass jars for tea, boxes of chocolates that are rarely preserved, Russian copper coins of the late 18th-19th centuries, bills and merchant bills, glass and clay bottles - artifacts that today can only be seen in historical movies);
- river finds: ships, anchors, ropes and canvas;
- blacksmith shop, goldsmith's workshop, workshop of flowering windows, icon painter's workshop, tea-house;
- a collection of patterned weaving and embroidery of the museum (over 3500 fabrics);
- unique collections of gold and pearl sewing;
- a collection of old printed books, books of the first Russian and Belarusian masters: Ivan Fedorov and Peter Mstislavets.
- collection of handwritten books.
