The railway station in the village of Farinovo

Rail junctions had a great importance at all times and everywhere being a connecting component of huge railway systems and connecting transport directions. So Farinovo station is in the village of the same name of Polotsk district of Vitebsk region, which is situated sixteen kilometers south-west from Polotsk. The distance from Farinovo to the capital of Belarus is more than two hundred kilometers. Nowadays the population of Farinovo village is only three thousand people but it does not impede it to have a wonderful rail and road connections with neighbouring cities. Passenger long-distance trains, electric trains and freight trains pass through the settlement every day. Suburban and long-distance buses depart from here up to twenty times a day. The village itself is very cosy, here are thirty-two multistorey buildings built in the 60-80-ies of the last century. Houses have typical constructions. The village has well-developed infrastructure, and lush trees grow along beautiful winding paths.

The station was built in the early 20th century. Unfortunately, the name of an architect is unknown. Nowadays the historical building of the railway station belongs to an Orthodox community and is used as a church. Now here is situated the Church of St. Tychon which is a part of Polotsk deanary. The Church is a stone one-storey building with high arched windows. The building is adorned with graceful openings and there is a porch near the entrance. Currently the construction has been restored and repainted from beige to blue. Fundamental construction works were carried out because its condition was very neglected at the time of transfer of the building under the Orthodox Church: the facade of the once beautiful building literally crumbled. The building was consecrated in 1994. And works on installation of a new iconostasis began there eleven years later, in 2005. Currently the parish village Church works successfully.

The current railway station is located in another building. It is situated close to the old passenger station. It is a small one-storey building with a hipped roof and nice flowerbeds around. The station is quite tiny and simple, but the room is new and is in excellent condition. A toy pool with artificial palm trees and figures of swans is equipped near the new building of the station.

Since olden times the village of Farinovo has been known for its hospitality. Here are regularly held cycle races, competitions and other entertainments in which the locals and guests of Polotsk district take part with pleasure. This place will be interesting for both an experienced tourist and a tourist-beginner. You can feel here peace and quiet, as if you have returned home from a long journey. Only birds’ songs and the sounds of passing trains sometimes break the silence and return a daydreaming traveler to reality.
