St Joseph Volotsky (or St. Joseph of Volokolamsk) Counseling Center is situated in 2 Nemiga street, in the capital. The construction of the building, where the center is located, took place in the XVIII century, in Baroque style, in a complex of St Peter and Paul Monastery. The building was reconstructed several times, as a result, it lost its initial architectural features.

The center deals with issues related to the functioning of different non-traditional religious movements, which have spread on the territory of Belarus.

It was opened in 1997 with the blessing of Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk.

Joseph Volotsky lived in the XV - early XVI centuries. He is a Saint of the Russian Orthodox Church. The canonization occurred more than half a century after the saint's death. Today, relics, as well as chains of Volotsky, are located in the Assumption Cathedral to men’s Joseph Volotsky Monastery, which is located near the village Teryaevo, 16 km fr om Volokolamsk. Here, in 2009, a monument to Saint Joseph Volotsky was erected. In the same year, Joseph of Volokolamsk became revered as a patron of the Orthodox entrepreneurship and management.

September 9 and October 18 are St Joseph Volotsky days (September 22 and October 31 according to Gregorian calendar).

The Center in Minsk collects the information on the history and current situation of different sects and cults. It conducts the analysis of data related to new religious movements in our country.

The Center is interested in healers and psychics practicing and working on the territory of Belarus.

The Center’s database includes information about different sect members, who work in more than seventy countries. There is also a library wh ere literature on sectarian and anti-sectarian subjects is collected. There are books, videos, sound recordings in different languages.

 The St Joseph of Volokolamsk Center conducts scientific research. Experts examine the history, the structural organization of sects and other issues on this topic. They are interested why people join or leave sects, how they influence the political life of the country and so on.

In 2005, the Center became a correspondent at FECRIS - European Federation of Centers of Research and Information on Sectarianism.
