The history of Trinity Church in Kossovo

Trinity Church is a Roman Catholic Church, which is located in the very heart of the small town of Kossovo. This city was mentioned in the chronicles for the first time in the XV century. The town is located in Ivatsevichi district of Brest region. The town is very quiet and small in size, it resembles a township a lot. But that’s the charm of the place – it is very cosy, quiet and pleasant to stay here.

The church was built of stone in 1877. It has survived in that shape to the present. But you can find the information in some sources that a wooden church stood on its place earlier in 1696. It is known by the fact that Tadeush Kostyushko was christened in the temple in 1746. The temple has another name – the Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity, but the locals and many visitors simply call it Trinity Catholic Church.

The description of Trinity Church in Kossovo

In general, the church is not only a historically valuable building, but also a vivid example among such architectural monuments made in Neo-gothic style. Long narrow stained-glass windows, as well as the very rectangular construction with an apse of five sides should be noted among the striking elements of this style. However, some sources are trying to ascribe Trinity Church to Neo-Romanesque style, and art historians’ opinions vary about that. A bell tower having a hipped tetrahedral shape is located on the main facade of the church. The whole church is painted white, the other elements, including the roof are brown. The whole appearance of the construction looks good, and it can’t be said at first glance that the building is already several centuries old.

There is an altar with a commemorative inscription meaning “Pray for us, Mother of God” inside of the church. A miraculous icon in the beautiful setting of silver is located in the very altar. According to some legend, the icon is nearly 350 years already. It is said that when the wooden church was burnt, the icon was the only thing remained intact and lied among the ashes after the fire. Not only Catholics come to pray in front of this amazing icon, but also the people of the Orthodox faith, and even Protestants. They all share the belief that it really works wonders. And among the clergymen, there are many stories about the people’s recovery, who prayed persistently in front of the icon. Some of them even got rid of oncological and severe heart diseases, and other serious maladies. The miracle lies not only in the icon itself, but in the power of faith aimed at healing, with which people come to it to pray.
