A SMALL HAMLET IN MINSK REGION

The village of Nekasetsk is situated five kilometres north-east from the district centre Myadel in Minsk region. Right through it a creek runs that disgorges its waters into lake Batorino, and also goes a lorry road Myadel-Dokshitsy.

The population of the village is quite small – only 18 people. Nevertheless a wooden Church of the Holy Trinity, erected in the early 20th century, can be eye-catching for visiting guests and particularly for connoisseurs of Belarusian architecture.

FUNCTIONAL CHURCH IN A SMALL SETTLEMENT

In spite of the fact that the village is small with so few people living there, the services are being conducted at a local temple. In 1926 there was built an Orthodox church sanctified of the name of the Holy Trinity. The initiator of the construction was a landlord called Chernyavsky.

Back then, there were no churches in neighbouring villages, that`s why christenings, weddings of newly-weds and other sacraments of residents around all neighbourhood were conducted here at the Orthodox parish of Nekasetsk.

THE TRINITY CHURCH OF NEKASETSK FROM ARCHITECTURAL VIEWPOINT

The building is listed among the constructions of the classical style. It took the form of a square built as the wooden framework fitted with timber on the exterior. The church stands on a solid foundation made of rubble stone. There are two small structures adjacent to the main part of the building: one of them is contiguous to the lateral facade of the north side of the church, another one is the bell tower constructed in two circles and bordering on the main facade.

The Trinity Church in Nekasetsk has the roof in the shape of a cross, adorned with small wooden dome-tops. The building does not have special interior decoration, fretwork or stucco moulding, typical of religious Christian constructions, it looks very simple. Today its facade is painted blue and decorated with yellow inserts. The iconostasis inside the church is also wooden but adorned with fretwork.

DOORS OF THE TRINITY CHURCH IN NEKASETSK HAVE ALWAYS BEEN OPEN AND STAY OPEN

Because a few parishioners continue praying and conducting services, so neither the Great Patriotic War nor the post-war atheism, propagating all over the Soviet Union, could close the church. In the history of the Trinity church, serving God never stopped here in the village, inhabitants of neighbouring settlements could always come here to pray and ask for the priest’s advice.

IN 1999, SACRED FIRE OF TOMB OF JESUS WAS BROUGHT TO THE TEMPLE

During that year one more memorable event in the history of the Trinity Church occurred – a new church altar was consecrated.

The parishioners consider the Trinity Church in Nekasetsk, a monument of wooden architecture, to be a symbol of faith of all Myadel area. The services here are attended by worshippers from all nearby villages.  Probably it is in this regard that the church has still been attractive both for Orthodox believers themselves and for tourists, visiting Myadel district and Narochansky land.
