Its approximate dimensions are 200×60 m.

What was here a century ago

This square in the city of Gomel is located between the Central Stadium and Pobedy Street. Long ago it was called Sportivnaya, but in 1967 it was renamed in memory of the uprising of sailors and soldiers of the transit point in 1916.

There was a parade ground 100 years ago. From archival photos of the Vosstaniya Square in Gomel, it can be seen that a fire station, a cycle track and an amphitheater were located nearby, which appeared thanks to the free fire society under the leadership of I.P. Maksimov. During the Great Patriotic War, these facilities were destroyed.

The modern look

Today fairs are held on Vosstaniya Square in Gomel. There is a recreation area and a car park.

On the left side is the building of the former Lancaster school. It was built in the days of Count Rumyantsev. The English architect John Clark worked on the project. In Soviet times, one of the buildings of the Trud shoe factory was located here.

In 1968, a T-34 tank was installed on this square in Gomel. It was erected in honor of the liberators from the Nazi invaders.
