It was opened in 2006. The author was the Belarusian sculptor Lev Oganov, who worked on the monument for 5 years. The monument is a bronze star. A tired nameless soldier bent to his knee in its crack. On the right side of the star there is a memorial plaque on which the names of 12 Novopolochans killed in the Afghan war are carved.
