The memorial complex "To the Victims of the Holocaust" in the locality of Stasino

The Great Patriotic War will long remain not only in memory of the veterans still alive, but all the people living in peacetime. Now the unknown soldiers’ remains are continued to be found on the territory of Belarus, and in connection with this new monuments to the war victims are constantly established. One of such large memorial complexes is located in Brest region, Stolin district, in the locality Stasino.

There is a monument to the Jewish victims of the genocide, which was mercilessly carried out by the German invaders and collaborators in 1941-1945. The widespread destruction of the Jewish population began since the territory of Belarus had been captured by the Nazi soldiers and that terror continued right up to the liberation of the country in 1944.

When the World War II came to an end, the few Jewish population tried strongly to perpetuate the memory of the dead loved ones. Unfortunately, that was not easy because of the Soviet Union anti-Semitic policy. Only those people who were affected by the Nazi invaders actions one way or another wanted to establish the monument to the Holocaust victims. The government didn’t need it. It was only in the late XX century when the Jewish communities were managed to perpetuate the victims’ memory of genocide.

So, in the small town of Stasino, there is a memorial complex "To the Victims of the Holocaust", which attracts all the people interested in military and historical topics. Stasino remembers the terrible tragic days, when in just 2 days - September11 and 12, 1942 - the Jewish ghetto prisoners were brutally murdered. The Germans had no mercy on anyone – shot every Jew.

Terrible details about the systematic persecution of the Jewish population in Stasino remained. The "Final Solution of the Jewish question" policy and the local orders of General von Schenkendorf stipulated that the Jews are to be singled out from the population total number. All the women and girls who had reached the age of 10 had to wear white strips with Zionist stars images on their arms. In addition, the Jews must not be greeted. If anyone violated this prohibition, the Nazis applied very harsh punishments to the violators. The Jews were forbidden to go to the places where people gathered, to use public transport, to walk in parks and just to live a normal life. They only worked for 14 hours without food and water, dying right at the manual works.

The invaders called "moves" the punitive operations against the Jewish. All this nationality representatives were systematically destroyed. They were either killed immediately or sent to a ghetto and were used as labor force. The work load was so huge that many Jews died from overwork and lack of medical care. Not to mention the fact that there were constant hunger and extreme cold.

Jews come to Stasino annually in memory of their prematurely gone relatives.
