Literary Museum of Petrus Brovka

Literary Museum of Petrus Brovka is the only memorial house-museum which was established in poet’s honor. The museum is located in a old building, a great example of 20th century’s first period architecture. It was built by Henryk Julian Gay as an apartment house in style of modern architecture. Gay’s office and architecture studio was also on the right wing of the building. From 1951 to 1980, national poet of Belarus, Pyotr Ustinovich Brovka (Petrus Brovka) also lived in that building in flat number 4.

The museum exhibit is divided into two parts, documentary and memorial. In the documentary part lets people know more about poet’s way of life and art. Among the exhibition items of this part, it is avaliable to meet by manuscripts and autographs of Petrus Brovka, his family, friends and contemporaries, musical manuscripts which are written from poet’s words or inspired by them, his and his environment’s photographs, illustrations for his works and also a lot of artworks, presented to Petrus Brovka by different artists.

Memorial part of Literary Museum of Petrus Brovka includes library and workroom of poet. All the furniture and the wares are saved just like in poet’s lifetime. It is possible to find literary examples from Ancient Roman to 1980. These are the translations of foreign writers’ books in Russian or Belarusian, examples from Literature of Soviet Union, Classical and Post-war Literature. These books are the speechless witnesses of poet’s taste in literature.

The Literary Museum of Petrus Brovka plays an active role in society hosting lectures, open discussions, book presentations and literary events. Especially, artworks and educational projects which are held by the museum become more of an issue.
