Cinema "Chyrvonaya Zorka"
The first acquaintance of Mogilev residents with the amazing world of cinema took place at the beginning of the twentieth century. The newspaper "North-Western Edge" informed readers that on August 10, 1903, sessions with a real American bioscope, the very first cinema of that time, would take place at the city theater. So, since 1903, cinema in Mogilev has received its distribution. As a rule, the first Belarusian cinemas were located either in residential buildings or in former places of worship.
Since 1909, Cinematograph has received a permanent residence permit in Mogilev. In the center of the city, on Dneprovsky Avenue, house No. 42 (currently it is Pervomayskaya Street), the theater "electrobiograph" was opened under the name "Charms". The name itself emphasized the "fantastic" nature of the unusual spectacle – cinema. The building of the cinema "Chary" was the first specially built for the demonstration of films.
In 1930-31, reconstruction was carried out, as a result of which the cinema "Chyrvonaya Zorka" was opened in 1932.
The grand opening of the cinema took place on December 24, 1932. On this day, the audience watched the first sound film program "Coup" directed by the Belarusfilm studio Yuri Tarich. The film was shown on the device of the company "Pathe" reinforced model. The company "Pathe" was the largest organization for the production of movie cameras not only in Europe, but also around the world.
In July 1938, on the basis of the Resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the BSSR No. 17 "On the formation of regional departments of cinematography at the regional executive committees", the Department of Cinematography of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee was formed.
In July 1941, the Department of Cinematography ceased its activities in connection with the occupation of Mogilev and the Mogilev region by the Nazi invaders. During the Great Patriotic War, the cinema "Chyrvonaya Zorka" was renamed "Luch", German films were shown there.
The cinema "Chyrvonaya Zorka" underwent two reconstructions – in 1954 and 2005. Currently, the oldest cinema in Mogilev is equipped with modern digital cinema projection equipment that allows for film services in 2D and 3D formats.
The activities of the cinema staff are not limited only to showing movies. Much attention is paid to interactive forms of work with the audience. The cinema hosts premiere screenings, creative meetings, music and entertainment programs, film lectures, film quiz shows, prize draws, game programs with life-size dolls. Also, viewers are given the opportunity to see in the foyer of the cinema samples of film projection equipment of the bygone twentieth century, to get acquainted with the expositions "From the history of cinema", "Our glorious countrymen", "Kino May Krainy", "Turov Autumn", "Animaevka – a childhood holiday".
