The former palace of Grodno Vice-Governor Maksimovich
In Grodno, you can find a lot of different historical and architectural monuments of various centuries. One of these attractions is the palace of the Vice-Governor Maximovich. The object was erected in 1803 . The main difference of this building is that because of the landscape it is made in an L-shaped shape. At the same time, the symmetry of classicism, which began to flourish in the XIX century, is maintained.

In the center of the castle, a portico with four columns was installed, interspersed with Doric and Corinthian orders. The columns form a passage to the courtyard. The entrance is decorated with a balcony with a forged ornate lattice.

The palace itself is two-storied. On the first floor there were luxurious, large halls for receiving guests, and on the second floor there were many small rooms that were connected by long corridors.

During the War of 1812, Napoleon's brother, the Westphalian King Jerome Bonaparte, was housed here. Four days of royal balls and banquets at the Maximovich Palace allowed Bagration's Russian army to escape encirclement and withdraw to the east. At a later time of the XIX century, the building housed: the treasury chamber, the provincial treasury and archives, the office of the tax inspectorate; in 1920 – the Grodno Military Revolutionary Committee, in which the founder of the Cheka Felix Dzerzhinsky stopped by.

During the years spent "under Poland", the administration of the Grodno village head, state institutions, the city museum and a casino for officials were located here. After the war and to this day – this is the building of the Grodno regional Executive Committee. In 2011, a memorial plaque was installed on the palace in memory of Pyotr Stolypin, the Russian prime minister, reformer, who served as governor of Grodno in 1902-1903.
