Around Belarus in 7 days: the sixth day

It is very interesting and unusual to wake up in a different city every day. You are in anticipation of new emotions and that energizes you very much. Of course, we have already felt a little bit tired after so many days of travel. But believe us: this is definitely worth it!

It will be recalled that we woke up in Brest. We had planned for today a small trip around the city, and quite short at that. Our rental apartment was in a very good location - not far fr om the Brest fortress. We went to a nearby cafe, had breakfast and ran to snap-shoot.

The Brest forterss

Construction of the fortress was started in 1833. At the same time here was erected Brest Castle. Initially the structures were earthworks of a temporary nature. The first stone was laid three years later. And in 1842 the construction of the fortress and the castle was  fully completed.

They look after the complex very well. Some places have undergone a major renovation since our last visit to this place. As usual, here are many tourists. But we will share a life hack with you, if you prefer privacy. Behind the fortress, a little to the right of the main entrance (if you stand back to it), there is a place where two rivers connect – the Mukhovets and the Bug rivers.

Even the photo clearly shows where one river ends and another begins. So, here purls calmly the water and are very few people. In addition, you can see the fortress fr om the other side.

Near the fortress there is an interesting Museum “Berestye” with well-preserved remains of a settlement which were found here in 1968.

We had little time so we went on further. Our route lay in the direction of castles and marshes, to the penultimate point in our route - the city of Mozyr.

In the meantime we are admiring the remains of the castle of the Sapiehas in Ruzhany and trying to understand how this majestic residence looked in the times of its flowering.

The Sapiehas in Ruzhany

The castle was laid more than four hundred years ago, in 1602, and none other than one of the most famous and influential representatives of the Sapiehas’ family – Lev Sapieha, the Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuanian had a hand in the creation of the residence.

By the way, there often run local children, who are ready for a few cents to give you a tour of the castle, to show old stuccos, basements, wh ere once the explosion occurred, and old fireplaces. Take advantage of this chance, you will not regret! But take a flashlight for the basements, and then you are able to examine in details the effects of numerous fires. And do not lose vigilance: in some places crumbles the brickwork.

A few kilometers from Ruzhany castle there is the Puslovskies’ Palace. There is a legend that between these castles was an underground passage. We had been looking for it for a long time but never found, so we had to drive again. Maybe you will have better luck.

The Puslovskies’ Palace

The Puslovskies’ Palace, also called Kossovo castle, is an amazing in its beauty residenceKnight’s dream and Miniature Castle are other names of this fine example of neo-Gothic architecture of the 19th century, striking with grandeur and power of the Castle walls even now.

After the ruins in Ruzhany the Puslovskies’ Palace does not seem so interesting and exciting. Now it is on restoration and getting inside is impossible. The work is promised to be completed by 2018. But in the meantime we can admire it from afar.

In front of the Palace was a Park formerly, but there is almost nothing left of it, except one pine tree.

If you stand with your back to the Castle, you will see another local landmark. This is a manor of Tadeusz Kosciuszko, the famous revolutionary.

The family house of Tadeusz Kosciuszko

The family house of Tadeusz Kosciuszko stands on the shore of a large lake, offering excellent views.  Move away a bit further and then you will get excellent shots with two attractions at once. Here's a life hack.

The time was nearing to lunchtime, so it was time to move on, to have time to meet the sunset.

We stopped quite by chance in front of the Church wh ere Tadeusz Kosciuszko had been baptized. By the way, inside is still that particular stone bowl.

On the road to Mozyr we came across a whole field of white flowers. We have never seen such beauty. And, of course, we could not help but stop and take some pictures with the flowers.

It is time to tell you about our most striking impression of this day. This is Olmansky Swamps. We have not met a quieter place and again we were alone here. You can go through the swamp without special equipment: everywhere are laid wooden walkways.

In 2 kilometers there will be a view for which you will want to live here. Here is a small round lake, right in the middle of the forest, the water in it is dark. Constantly blows fresh wind.

Having spent here half an hour, we decided that it was necessary to continue our trip. Ahead we were waited by the overnight and sunset in one of the farmsteads not far from Mozyr - in the village Konkovichi.

However we could not help but visit one of the most ancient Belarusian towns that was located not far from our lodging for the night. Do you think what town it is?  Of course, it is Turov! We could not drive past one of the most interesting sights of Belarus - Turov stone cross that grows from the ground.

Everything was going according to plan: we arrived at the lodging for the night at sunset. We had a dinner of fish soup and then we went to see off this staggering day, full of so many different adventures.
