In Belovezhskaya Pushcha will be engaged in the recounting of badgers

The number of badger burrows will be monitored in the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha". By the end of the year, employees will study the state of the badger population, as well as put camera traps.

The last time such a study was conducted back in the 80s of the last century. Since then, much has changed. The number of badgers began to decline for several reasons:

  • due to the increase in the number of raccoon dogs in the national park,

  • through the fault of poachers,

  • due to drainage of swamps, etc.

An interesting fact from VETLIVA: a badger is a useful beast that regulates the number of rodents and insects, and also digs branched burrows. It is listed in the Red Book of Belarus, the species is assigned the III category. This means that he is not under the direct threat of complete extinction, but is at risk.
