In Belarus, there are 1,289 national parks, reserves, wildlife sanctuaries and natural monuments. In total, these natural objects occupy 1,861.5 thousand hectares or about 8.9% of the entire territory of the country and are classified as specially protected. Protected areas are designed to preserve the unique nature, flora and fauna of Belarus.
