Mosar

In Mosar village you will find beautiful landscapes, sculptures and monuments of architecture.

The history of Mosar

The first mention of this village dates back to the beginning of the XVI century when it belonged to Zenovich. In the middle of the century, Sigismund August allowed to found a settlement there. The village was gradually growing. Mosar flourished when almost for 200 years the Bzhostovsky family owned these lands. A palace with a park, alleys and gardens (the end of the XVIII century) and St Anna church were built there. At that time, Stanislav Ponyatovsky visited Mosar, who even participated in archaeological excavations there.

Unfortunately, the palace in Mosar was destroyed during the offensive of the Red Army in 1920. But the Catholic Church did not suffer during both wars, from the Soviet atheism and perestroika. It is now in excellent condition.

The relics of St. Justinian are kept in this church.  It was built in 1792. The St Anna Church in Mosar is known beyond the country. And it is not only because of its beauty. Near the church, there are many touristic and religious objects.

A lawn near the church is a piece of art or at least a picture from a movie. You won’t find such a lively composition in other villages of the country.  Fountains, pond, lawn - all this is a work of priest Juozas Bulka, lived until 2010, and his assistants. Juozas Bulka is a legendary person in these lands.

In 1989, he came to the village and began to struggle with alcoholism from which local people suffered. Soon, he persuaded the villagers to stop selling alcohol. In the church, there are written proofs of those who could get rid of this unhealthy habit.

Priest Juozas Bulka was awarded the title “Canon” for the development of spirituality. Also, he received a medal of Francisk Skorina.

Modern Mosar

Mosar is located in Glubokoe district of Vitebsk region. Almost 500 inhabitants live in the village. One might say, it is a land of soberness. In local cafes, you won’t find alcohol on the menu.

While wandering there, you may think that it is an open-air exhibition. A cemetery near the church is maintained in a perfect order, there are many statues. In addition to mentioned sights, outbuildings of the XIX century, bell tower of 1930, chapel of 1997 are preserved in the village.

Many Belarusian, foreigners, and pilgrims come to see the church and famous village in person. Numerous tourist routes lie through Mosar. And, perhaps, not only guides but also local people tell you about the history of this place, who helped improve the village and turn it into a real attraction of the Vitebsk region.
