Beloozersk

Beloozersk city owes its name to the picturesque White Lake, located not far fr om it. However, the city itself is located between the three lakes - White, Black and Sporovsky. This place is just twenty-five miles south of the district center Bereza.

Beloozersk cannot boast of a long and ancient history, because it is only 50 years old. Founded in 1958, it is, nevertheless, an important power energy center of our country. Only here and nowhere else on the territory of Belarus spare parts for power plants are created, as well as specialized manufactured power equipment is produced. It can be easily said that Beloozersk is an energetic heart of Belarus.

The city was built in the late fifties of the last century on the place where previously Nivki village was located. At first it was a small settlement appeared here because of the construction of Berezovskaya hydroelectric power station. The construction of the hydroelectric power station was a real Komsomol building, there came the young people not only from all over of Belarus, but also from other countries that were part of the Soviet Union.

One year later, in May 1959 at the site of Nivki a temporary settlement appeared, consisting at that time of 150 caravans, of which 120 were houses, and 30 were vital buildings - shops, hospitals, etc. The railroad was built, and in May 1960 it was opened for traffic. The station was named in honor of the village, in the place wh ere the settlement originated, called Berezovsky that time. In June 25, 1960 the village received its official name - Beloozersk.

The village developed rapidly. Only 12 years after the beginning of construction in 1970, it had already received city status. Currently it is home to a little more than twelve thousand of people, there are two schools, a gymnasium, and even electrical engineering college. Fifty-five enterprises are located in the city and, of course, the main and the most developed is considered to be power industry.

Why does the city attract tourists? Of course, its main architectural monument is the Temple of St. Seraphim of Sarov. Despite its relatively young history (it was built in 1995), the temple strikes with its  beauty of the Byzantine style in which it was built, and is considered to be the hallmark of the industrial city. In addition, power station itself is of great interest, which is the first hydroelectric power plant of block type in Belarus. Berezovskaya hydroelectric power station  supplies electricity to Lithuania and Poland, it generates a huge amount of energy, while consuming very little.

Beloozersk will be interesting to outdoor activities lovers. White Lake is located not far from it, which is famous for its fish wealth (only here shrimps live and breed). Agro-tourism lovers will also appreciate the fairs of agricultural products, which are constantly held on the territory of Beloozersk.
